A tool to turn to…

in the middle of the night.

She’s waking up crying in the middle of the night less often, and if she does wake up we just read the book, and out she goes. She is also waking up happier in the mornings.

Created by a professional nanny specifically for babies and toddlers.

Look inside….

We don’t often think of sleep as something that needs to be taught; however, learning self-soothing and relaxation techniques to help the body get ready for sleep can be invaluable for young people... The Middle of the Night Book is perfect as a read-aloud meditation to help young children learn to relax for sleep. Soothing illustrations in dark, dreamy blues and purples create an atmosphere of safety, calm, and comfort.

Meet the team:

Author:Stef Tousignant

I'm Stef, the author of The Middle of the Night Book. I am a mom of two, and a professional nanny of 20+ years. I have a background in child development and have sleep trained 100's of children - in many, many different ways.

I have always thought that bedtime books are an essential tool that build structure and signals into our baby's end of day routine. In the middle of the night, however, we are left with bouncing or dealing with tantrums - resorting to bandaid fixes, none of which feel really "right".

I hope my book helps you to get some sleep!

Both women have artistic backgrounds and a passion for baby and kids’ products, as they first met while working at a toy store. Their artwork is full of dreamy pastels, a modern meets vintage aesthetic, and usually a dose of shininess. This is their first book project.

At bedtime every child needs something different:

  • Babies need a strong bedtime routine to cue them that it's time to sleep.

  • Toddlers need to learn to regulate and calm their bodies so they can access their own self-settling and soothing skills learned as babies.

A Tool for Parents

Studies have shown time and again how valuable meditation is for adults and how body scans in particular can lower stress hormones like cortisol.

This book is important because it provides the anchor so many children need in their routines to regulate and calm themselves during the night and eventually during daytime tantrums

FAQs:

Why do babies need a Bedtime Routine?

IMG_4653.PNG

When a baby knows what to expect, they can lower their fight or flight mode, relax and pay more attention to their body - noticing sleepy cues and their sleep window BEFORE they get overtired. This is why bedtime routines are so important,. Introduce The Middle of the Night Book before bed as your routine's final book (or what is called an anchor book).

Why is Body Awareness Important for Toddler Sleep?

All toddlers need to learn the foundational skill called 'body awareness’, which will help them to notice their body's sleepiness and down-regulate from wiggles or tantrums. This regulation is the important first step in the three stages of falling asleep: self-regulation, self-settling, and self-soothing.

What do I do when my Toddler wakes up in the Middle of the Night?

Rely on your bedtime routine. Just like your bedtime books are a critical part of your bedtime routine, you can also rely on a book for the middle of the night. The Middle of the Night Book is the first bedtime board book to use a body scan meditation to help your child notice their body’s sleepiness. Use it before bed and during the night for total effectiveness.
